COMMENTARY

R. McKnight
8th October 2010
RS 32:197 Riding on Roadways and Bicycle Paths

Every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable.
When riding a bike on the opposite side from traffic, the cyclist would be closest to the left side of the roadway. I feel the officer should have told your son he needed to ride on the other side of the street.

My son was arrested in Lafayette LA. for riding his bike on the wrong side of the street. Can they do that? I thought a ticket or warning would be sufficent. Can you answer this question please
