World News Today launched on the 3rd of July, 2006, aiming to appeal to the breakfast audience in the United States where BBC World had recently launched on cable.

A second daily edition of the programme will be broadcast from September 18th 2006 2200 CET complete with an edition of Sport Today following, which will be presented by Nik Gowing.
