Peers attended the University of California at Los Angeles and was commissioned in the Army in 1938.
During World War II, Peers was assigned to the OSS. He served with and later commanded Detachment 101 which carried out operations against the Japanese in Burma.
After the war, Peers served in a variety of assignments with the CIA and the Army rising to the rank of Lieutenant General. Among his assignments were commanding combat troops in the field in Vietnam.
In 1969, Peers was ordered to investigated the My Lai Massacre. Peers issued a very thorought and damning report. Photographs of the My Lai massacre provoked world outrage and became an international scandal. ...
