WTMJ's first broadcast featured music by the WTMJ Orchestra and included a remote broadcast featuring Bill Carlsen's orchestra. The Green Bay Packers and WTMJ Radio (AM 620) have signed a long-term extension of their radio broadcast rights agreement, Robert E. Harlan, the Packers' president and chief executive officer, announced Thursday.
The extension means that WTMJ will continue as the flagship station of the Green Bay Packer Radio Network, with exclusive rights to broadcasts of the games and related programming.
WTMJ, a partner for more than 70 years, first broadcast a Packers game on November 24, 1929, a day which saw Green Bay defeat the Giants, 20-6, in a game played at New York, with Russ Winnie handling the play-by-play for WTMJ.
