WSYT Channel 68 began operation on February 15, 1986. They were owned by Taft Broadcasting. The station became a Fox Affiliate in October of 1986. Taft Broadcasting sold their independent television stations including Fox affiliates to TVX Broadcasting. Because the number of stations owned by Taft plus TVX's existing stations would put TVX over their limit by FCC laws, WSYT was sold to The Flatley Company which also owned WNHT Channel 21 in Manchester/Concord, New Hampshire which became a CBS Affiliate. WSYT was profitable while WNHT was losing money as a CBS affiliate. Alot of money was spent on WNHT with programming and a news operation but viewers there could recieve CBS programming on either Boston's WNEV 7 (now WHDH and an NBC affiliate) or Portland's 13 WGNE. In 1989 Flatley ended operations of WNHT and returned the license to The FCC. Today Channel 21 is owned by Paxson Comminucations. After the fiasco with WNHT Flatley opted to exit broadcasting and sold WSYT to Encore Communications. Under Encore WSYT continued as a Fox affiliate. In the 1990's the classic sitcoms and movies were replaced by more Fox programming in prime time and talk and reality shows during the day.
