Founded by Rev. Rus Bixler, WPCB went on the air Easter Sunday of 1979. The station has always aired only religious programs. It almost moved to channel 16, which is occupied by WQEX. However, the FCC ruled that religious programming could not occupy the entire day on an educational license (of which WQEX was one). WPCB was also to be sold to Paxson and affiliate with Pax TV (now the i network) in 1999, but this also did not materialize as WPCB was itself a non-commercial station as well. As such, WPCB remains a commercial license but is used as non commercial on channel 40 and continues to run Christian programming 24/7, including sermons, music and children's programming, crusades, magazine shows, talk, and variety shows. All shows have a Christian theme.
