As the former sister station of WHJB-AM (now WKHB), WGSM-FM was originally WHJB-FM, then WOKU-FM Adult Contemporary, Heavy Metal, Country, and WSSZ-FM Top 40 Hot Hits! Z-107 in the late 80s to 1991 (the "SSZ" is the sound of the sizzling Hot Hits) and broadcasted in 1990-1991 from a studio in the former Greengate Mall on U.S. Route 30 in Greensburg (now Greengate Centre). WSSZ switched to classic rock Classic Hits Z-107 in July of 1991. All were licensed to Greensburg, but became a simulcast of WAMO-FM in 1996 to cover the eastern part of the metro Pittsburgh market. The simulcast was initiated as part of a sale of the FM station to Sheridan Broadcasting that year, and the AM to another owner. In 2003 WSSZ became a simulcast of WAMO (AM) after the 106.7 signal moved its tower and improved its coverage. In 2004, it acquired the WJJJ calls, and changed its name to "Majic 107.1," but the programming remained the same. On January 30, 2006 Sheridan sold WJJJ to The St. Pier Group LLC (Renda Broadcasting), who immediately flipped the station from Urban Adult Contemporary to Variety Hits, using Westwood One's "SAM" satellite format. They also decided to target the Westmoreland County area by planning to move the studios and offices back to Greensburg. For sometime, WGSM's studios were in Indiana, at the location of the 4 other Renda Stations. For 1 year's time, Just George and Brent on the morning show worked out of the Indiana studios. The new facility in Greensburg was completed in late 2006, and the morning show duo joined their business and sales counterparts in Westmoreland County is the 30th day of the year in the Gregorian calendar. ... Tony Michaels is not only the station manager but the host of the Jukebox Saturday Show - one of the longest radio shows in PA radio history; every Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM. Jim DeCesare, Operations Manager for Renda Broadcasting's co-owned four-station cluster in Indiana, hosts Jazzz Impressions [1], now in its 31st year, every Sunday from 9 AM to 11 AM.
