History

As a competitive attempt to outbeat the only hit music station in Augusta, Radio One launches "92.3 and 100.9 The Beat" in the early 2000's. 92.3 and 100.9 besides broadcasting on two frequencies (the 100.9 signal was usually better) they played non-stop music in an attempt to be commercial-free. This, however, didn't last very long, and few commercials were played every now and again on the station. Slowly but surely the station made its way to the top but did not outbeat the very popular "Y105" which at the time played the hit music (105.7 The Bull as it is considered now is a country station, it has been in operation since 2004). By 2002 and 2003, the station slowly phased out the "100.9" frequency and became 92.3 The Beat in 2003, then later in the year, more alternative rock songs continued to fill in the gap, then slowly "The Beat" was phased out.

Deprived of an alternative station since the departure of 96x, radio one finally introduced "92.3 WAEG, the CSRA's New Rock Alternative" to Augusta. The station has been around since 2004 and features disc-jockeys on rare occasions and very few commercials. The artists played significantly on this station include Bush, Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, U2, Linkin Park among many other alt-rock icons featured. The station also keeps up to date really well with the newcomers to the format, playing all the hot-current singles of today.
