Victory Square, Vancouver - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (461 words)
Victory Square is a park in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Victory Square was at one time the grounds of the city's provincial courthouse, which was torn down in 1911-13 when the new Rattenbury-designed courthouse on Georgia Street was opened (now the Vancouver Art Gallery).
On the south side of Victory Square originally stood the Central School, which later became the original Vancouver Community College (then named Vancouver College), adjacent to which was the city's original main hospital (both were in a brickwork Gothic style).
Skorina Avenue in Minsk (2443 words)
Adjacent to the square from the south is an old Central Park, behind which stands the Residence of the President of the Republic of Belarus (formerly the building of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus) (1941, architects A. Voinov, V. Varaksin).
The further development of the square was based on the master plan of 1946 (architects N. Androsov, N. Trakhtenberg), design projects for the residential apartment blocks (1950-1956, architects M. Barshch, L. and G. Aranauskas) and the square's improvement of 1954 (architect G. Zaborsky).
Today Victory Square represents a fine architectural ensemble where the memorial complex is successfully combined with the adjacent residential buildings, parks and the river.
