Verkhoyansk Range, mountain chain, ca. 1000 km (600 m.) long, in the Sakha Republic. It forms a vast arc between the Lena and Aldan rivers to the west and the Yana River to the east. It rises to ca. 2,480 m (8,150 ft) in the south. There are coal, silver, lead, and zinc deposits. Yana River - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (415 words)
In the Verkhoyansk area, it stays frozen to the bottom for 70-110 days, and partly frozen for 220 days of the year.
There are approximately 40,000 lakes in the Yana basin, including both alpine lakes formed from glaciation in the Verkhoyansk Mountains (lowland were always too dry for glaciation) and overflow lakes on the marshy plains in the north of the basin.
Verkhoyansk, Batagay, Ust-Kuyga, Nizhneyansk are the main ports on the Yana.
Dzhugdzhur Mountains (137 words)
The Dzhugdzhur Mountains are a mountain range in the far east of Siberia tht run along the entire northwest coast of the Sea of Okhotsk.
In the east mountains emerge from the Stanovoi Range and run northeast for some 1500 kilomteres before spliting three ways into the Cherskiy Mountains, Verkhoyansk Mountains, and Gydan Mountains.
The mountains are quite deserted, the one exception being hte gold mines that have operated in the range since the 1920s.
