The history of Vanden Plas is not well documented prior to the end of the second War.


Among others, Vanden Plas made bodies for a number of Rolls Royce Phantom III, Bentleys such as the 1930 3 1/2 liter and the Mark VI Drophead.


Typically from one to 7 similar bodies would be built for a particular model.


After its acquistion by Austin, it became quite well known for its pretty "Princess Limousine" (which most people then and today would confuse in appearance for a Rolls Royce). Following the demise of the BMC Conglomerate, which at one point encompassed over 40 British Marques, the Vanden Plas name was acquired by Jaguar Cars.


Introduced by Jaguar cars in 1968 (Jaguar had acquired Daimler in 1960), the Daimler DS420 Limousine was a replacement for the aging Austin Princess, whose body and coachwork had been designed by Vanden Plas as well.
