Valatie is a village located in Columbia County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,712.
The Village of Valatie is in the center of the Town of Kinderhook on Routes 28A and 108.
Valatie is located at 42°24'50" North, 73°40'39" West (42.413847, -73.677533)1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.3 km˛ (1.3 mi˛). 3.2 km˛ (1.2 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.04 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 3.15% water.
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,712 people, 584 households, and 386 families residing in the village. The population density is 537.4/km˛ (1,388.3/mi˛). There are 627 housing units at an average density of 196.8/km˛ (508.4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 96.67% White, 0.93% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races. 3.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 584 households out of which 36.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.0% are married couples living together, 12.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.9% are non-families. 28.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.09.
