One possible location is Köpingsvik[?] in the county of Öland in the Baltic Sea, that not only have several remains from the 9th and 11th century, but actuallt lies 'in a bay to the north into the Baltic Sea'.
Naturally, to hold any view at all regarding the existence, first, and the location, second, of these ancient places of cult and religion, one have to be very well read of the actual historical sources, and of the findings in archelogical and linguistical science being conducted over the years.
The big question is whether they originated in Uppland, or if they originated in the oldest agricultural areas in Sweden, the Väner area in Västergötland.
