The University of North Texas Research Park is a facility seperate from the main campus, located north of the main campus on U.S. 77. In January of 2003 the 550,000 square foot facility opened to students and is mainly used for and by the College of Engineering. The facility houses offices and labs for the Department of Engineering Technology, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the Deparment of Materials Science and Engineering and the newly created Department of Electrical Engineering. The Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering is planned to be added in 2007.
Texas AandM's rare triple designation as a Land-, Sea-, and Space-Grant institution reflects a broad range of research, with ongoing projects funded by agencies such as NASA, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the Office of Naval Research.
The Texas AandM College of Architecture, one of the largest architectural colleges in the United States (2,000 students), is ranked third in Texas, behind the University of Texas and Rice University, and 10th among public institutions.
Texas AandM was involved in a bid to operate the Los Alamos National Laboratory for the US Department of Energy but dropped its bid in December 2004.
