The University of North Texas Research Park is a facility seperate from the main campus, located north of the main campus on U.S. 77. In January of 2003 the 550,000 square foot facility opened to students and is mainly used for and by the College of Engineering. The facility houses offices and labs for the Department of Engineering Technology, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the Deparment of Materials Science and Engineering and the newly created Department of Electrical Engineering. The Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering is planned to be added in 2007.

The University of North Texas (informally UNT or North Texas), located in Denton, Texas, was founded in 1890 by Joshua C. Chilton as Texas Normal College and Teacher Training Institute.
It was known as North Texas State Teachers College in 1923, North Texas State College in 1949, and North Texas State University 1961, before finally being named the University of North Texas in 1988.
The university is a member of the Federation of North Texas Area Universities, offering various graduate degrees in coordination with Texas Woman's University and Texas AandM University-Commerce.

The Texas AandM College of Architecture, one of the largest architectural colleges in the United States (2,000 students), is ranked third in Texas, behind the University of Texas and Rice University, and 10th among public institutions.
Texas AandM was involved in a bid to operate the Los Alamos National Laboratory for the US Department of Energy but dropped its bid in December 2004.
