The league started as two proposed 8-team leagues in 2006, the North American Indoor Football League and the Ultimate Indoor Football League. The leagues merged in the fall of 2006 [1].


So far, only two teams have publicly announced their entry -- as founding members of the NAIFL -- the Arkansas Stars, a team that played their inaugural season in the NIFL, and the Conroe Storm, a newly-made team from Conroe, Texas.
