Tregaron is a market town in Ceredigion (Cardiganshire), mid Wales, lying on the river Brennig a tributary of the River Teifi. According to the UK Census 2001, the population of Tregaron was 1,183 people. Tregaron is situated on the river Brenig which is known for its brown trout and eels. Trout up to 5 ounces are caught reguarly by local children. The largest fish to have been caught in the brenig was a brown trout which weighed in at 4lbs and can be seen stuffed in the talbot along with the elephant. It is also well known that reasonably large Brown Trout are in the river still today. Brown Trout of around the 1 lb mark have been caught where the river narrows and runs deeper.
