The Transnistrian Supreme Soviet (Russian: Верховного Совета Приднестровской Молдавской Республики) is the law making body in the region of Transnistria. The the unicameral body consists of 42 seats, all of which are determined by single mandate constituencies, is headed by a chairman. The Supreme Soviet (Russian: , Verhovniy Sovet, literally the Supreme Council) comprised the highest legislative body in the Soviet Union in the interim of the sessions of the Congress of Soviets, and the only one with the power to pass constitutional amendments. ... While they can pass laws that are relating to the region and it's affairs, however, they are not allowed to pass laws that conflict with Moldovan law. This is due in par that Transnistria is still considered a part of that country, though Transnistria has declared itself independent since 1992. The chairman of the Supreme Soviet is Grigorii Marakutsa (Grigore Mărăcuţă), who has held this position since the creation of the unicameral body. [1]
