Tipton County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 51,271. Its county seat is Covington6.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,230 km˛ (475 mi˛). 1,190 km˛ (459 mi˛) of it is land and 40 km˛ (15 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 3.23% water.
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 51,271 people, 18,106 households, and 14,176 families residing in the county. The population density is 43/km˛ (112/mi˛). There are 19,064 housing units at an average density of 16/km˛ (42/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 77.86% White, 19.90% Black or African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. 1.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
