Tilden was once called Charles Woodward High School, but the name was changed after Montgomery County Public Schools decided to create North Bethesda Middle School, which knocked Tilden's student population below high school standards. Tilden Middle School is best known for their outstanding musical program, including orchestra, band, and chorus. The chorus and band won 1st place at regionals and orchestra took 2nd during the 2006-2007 school year. Mr. Shaw and Mr. Patrie are the music directors. Mr. Shaw does chorus and drama and Mr. Patrie does orchestra and band and jazz band.


Former principals include Karen Rabin and Richard Wagner.
