Thunderstick (aka Barry Graham or Barry Purkis) was a drummer for the English heavy metal band Iron Maiden briefly in the late seventies. His stint in Iron Maideen was cut notoriously short after he fell asleep during a show whilst playing, this being due to copious amounts of alcohol that he had consumed.it was reported by Steve Harris the band`s founder member, that he had probably`dropped something` and he did`nt mean his drumsticks?!?! He then moved onto Samson.Where both he and paul Samson found the `at the time` unknown Bruce Dickinson. Going on to Record four albums together. All through this time Thunderstick had become truly eccentric by wearing a mask all the time and playing inside a cage. Even support acts never found out what he looked like, due to never seeing him without his beloved mask. After Samson he created his own self titled Band THUNDERSICK . A highly theatrical band fronted by his (at the time) wife . Two albums, one e.p and numerous american and European Tours later the band split. Thunderstick went back to the U.S.A and briefly played with the lead guitarist from KISS, Ace Frehley. On return to the U.K. he went into production and sound engineering. Donning his infamous mask, returning to his cage every now and then to record and play various Anniversary Festivals in Europe and Japan with Samson. Still Playing and Recording he now lives on the south coast. Heavy metal (sometimes referred to simply as metal) is a genre of rock music that developed between 1968 and 1974. ...
