Controversy and criticism

Christian fundamentalists who believe in the inerrancy of the Bible have responded with Christian apologetics to rebut the commentary. They have pointed out the fact that Wells has no education in the fields of apologetics, theology, ancient civilizations, or the ancient Greek and Hebrew languages and note that some Bible scholars believe these are required to do Bible exegesis. [8] They've also highlighted the fact that he does not cite scholarly or secondary works. This article concerns the self-labeled Fundamentalist Movement in Protestant Christianity. ... Biblical inerrancy is the belief that the Bible is without error. ... Christian Apologetics is the field of study concerned with the systematic defense (apologetics) of Christianity. ... This article discusses textual hermeneutics. ...

Steve Wells responds by saying education is crucial to seeing the flaws in the Bible, and that he has spent many years studying the Bible. He does not claim any training in exegesis. His criticism targets the King James version of the Bible partly because: It is still the most familiar version and some Christians consider it to be the only "authentic" version. [9]

The SAB provides links to responses by apologists at the bottom of chapter and contradiction pages.

Skeptic's Annotated Bible Refuted (407 words)
SAB is the Internet equivalent to a brick wall scribbled with graffiti, or arguing by saying, "nanny nanny boo boo." It performs (of course!) no analysis of the social background, the literary data, or context.
That said, such implied arguments as SAB uses are indeed thoroughly answered on this site and others we link to, but as our time has opened up a bit it is time to get more specific.
By estimate perhaps 40-50% of SAB's comments are either "argument by outrage" or places where SAB takes moral offense, usually against a cultural norm.
