Canonical issues

Main article: Buffyverse canon
Buffy comics, are not usually consdered by fans as canon. However unlike fanfic, 'overviews' summarising their story, written early in the writing process, were 'approved' by both Fox and Whedon (or his office), and the books were therefore later published as officially Buffy merchandise. Furthermore Christopher Golden used Joss Whedon's original script for the 'Buffy movie', and tied this comic series closely to continuity established by the televivion show. For example, the burning down of the gym takes place which is mentioned several times on the show. For this reason, some fans argue this comic desrves a place in canon.
