The King of Elfland's Daughter is a 1924 fantasy novel written by Lord Dunsany. A lord of Erl is told by the parliment of his people that they would be ruled by a magic lord. Obeying the immemorial custom, the lord sends his son Alveric to fetch the King of Elfland's daughter, Lirazel, to be his bride. He makes his way to Elfland and wins her, and in his father's lands, they have a son, but in the manner of fairy brides of folklore, she fits uneasily with his people. In time, this lets her father, the king, draw her back into Elfland. However, once there, she is no longer happy, and finally her father engulfed Erl, so that it was transformed into Elfland, and Lirazel can be reunited with Alveric without leaving Elfland.
