Staley is a town located in Randolph County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 347.

Staley is located at 3547'41" North, 7933'4" West (35.794757, -79.551114)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.1 km (1.2 mi). 3.1 km (1.2 mi) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 347 people, 125 households, and 98 families residing in the town. The population density is 110.7/km (285.9/mi). There are 136 housing units at an average density of 43.4/km (112.1/mi). The racial makeup of the town is 82.42% White, 6.34% African American, 2.31% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 5.76% from other races, and 3.17% from two or more races. 10.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 125 households out of which 38.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% are married couples living together, 13.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.6% are non-families. 19.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.10.

In the town the population is spread out with 28.2% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $36,964, and the median income for a family is $43,000. Males have a median income of $31,250 versus $22,045 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,758. 13.6% of the population and 11.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.0% of those under the age of 18 and 13.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
