Sorel Town in central Quebec at the confluence of the Richelieu River and the St. Lawrence River. Together with Tracy forms the Ville (city) of Sorel-Tracy. Population of Sorel-Tracy (2001 census) 34,194
Sorel is the fourth oldest city in Canada. It is in Sorel that the Christmas tree made its first appearance in North America on Christmas Eve 1781.
