Sonak, a character in the fictional Star Trek universe, a Vulcan science officer in Starfleet, was tapped by Admiral James T. Kirk to replace Mr. Spock on the newly-redesigned U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701). Sonak expected to serve under Captain Willard Decker, and was surprised to learn that Admiral Kirk would be commanding the ship. Unfortunately, before Sonak could commence duty, he was killed in a transporter accident while beaming to the Enterprise. Mr. Spock arrived on the ship days later, via a Vulcan shuttle, to take over Sonak's position as science officer.
