Simpsonville is a city located in Greenville County, South Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 14,352.

Simpsonville is located at 34°44'0" North, 82°15'36" West (34.733375, -82.260001)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.1 km˛ (6.2 mi˛). 16.1 km˛ (6.2 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 14,352 people, 5,391 households, and 4,021 families residing in the city. The population density is 890.9/km˛ (2,306.1/mi˛). There are 5,636 housing units at an average density of 349.9/km˛ (905.6/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 82.69% White, 13.76% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.79% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.23% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. 4.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,391 households out of which 39.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.6% are married couples living together, 11.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% are non-families. 20.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the city the population is spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 34.4% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 97.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $47,223, and the median income for a family is $52,043. Males have a median income of $38,680 versus $26,394 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,139. 6.1% of the population and 5.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.8% of those under the age of 18 and 6.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
