It's clear, on reading Silent Bob Speaks, that Smith has the highest kind of affection for almost every aspect of the business that he's in.
In Silent Bob Speaks, whether Smith is raving enthusiastically about Ben Affleck and David Duchovny or ranting about the actress he refers to as Greasy Reese Witherspoon -- "Greasy (pronounced 'GREE-ZEE') Reese (pronounced 'REE-ZEE') Witherspoon (pronounced accordingly)." -- he very seldom fails to engage completely.

Silent Bob, played by Smith, is his chubby, bearded best friend who, as his name suggests, rarely says anything; but when he does, often delivers it eloquently at a pivotal point in the narrative.
Born in Leonardo, New Jersey, Jay met Silent Bob when both their mothers were inside the Quick Stop from Clerks and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
