The airline was established in October 1992 and started operations on 13 September 1993. It was formed by the CAAC and Shenzhen government, with financial participation by Air China, Overseas Chinese City Economic Development Corporation, Bank of China and Shenzen South Tongfa Industrial Corporation. It is one of the most profitable airlines in China.
