On 17 October 2006 at 12:05 PM the school was put into a lockdown after a 16-year-old sophomore student shot himself in the head at approximately 12:04 PM outside the cafeteria. Reports indicated a plausible suicide attempt and authorities later confirmed a note was left at the scene as well as a handgun. He was later air-lifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
