Scott Air Force Base (Scott AFB) is a base of the United States Air Force located in St. Clair County, Illinois near Belleville. The base serves as the headquarters for the Air Mobility Command and the United States Transportation Command.


Geography

Scott AFB is located at 38°32'39" North, 89°51'2" West (38.544298, -89.850544)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.7 km˛ (3.8 mi˛). 9.7 km˛ (3.8 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,707 people, 682 households, and 662 families residing in the town. The population density is 278.7/km˛ (721.0/mi˛). There are 715 housing units at an average density of 73.6/km˛ (190.4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 78.91% White, 13.52% Black or African American, 0.33% Native American, 2.96% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 1.81% from other races, and 2.40% from two or more races. 4.06% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 682 households out of which 78.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 90.5% are married couples living together, 4.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 2.9% are non-families. 2.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.83 and the average family size is 3.90.


In the town the population is spread out with 44.7% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 40.6% from 25 to 44, 6.6% from 45 to 64, and 0.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 22 years. For every 100 females there are 100.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.2 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $51,290, and the median income for a family is $52,258. Males have a median income of $39,289 versus $24,674 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,421. 1.5% of the population and 0.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.9% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
