The racial makeup of the county is 94.88% White, 2.73% Black or African American, 0.63% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 1.31% from two or more races. 0.60% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 30,871 households out of which 31.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.30% are married couples living together, 13.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.80% are non-families. 26.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
