Sandie Shaw - Biography - AOL Music (357 words)
British singer Sandie Shaw had a string of girl group-styled singles in the mid-'60s before she retired in the early '70s.
Shaw was discovered by pop singer Adam Faith in 1963, who led her to his manager, Eve Taylor; she released her debut single, "As Long as You're Happy," the following year.
In 1970, Shaw tried to become a family entertainer, yet those plans were scuttled by a failed marriage and scandalous rumors that circulated in the British newspapers.
Sandie Shaw has had it with pop, she tells David Peschek. | | Guardian Unlimited Arts (1638 words)
As well as the songs Shaw had written with Andrews, material was chosen from other writers who excited her, including the notoriously gruff Jesus and Mary Chain ("They were so nice") and Mike Scott of the Waterboys ("wonderful").
Shaw is also conscious of the difficulties of making the right record, and trading on the past in the wrong way would be "death" to her.
At the beginning of the 1990s, Shaw went to London University, studying psychodynamic counselling at Birkbeck College, at the same time as her daughter Gracie was studying English at University College, just down the road.
