The Samnaun area was at the heart of all the changes during history, mostly because of its proximity to one of the most important north-south passes in the Alps, Reschenpass / Passo di Resia.
The original name of Samnaun was Samignum, a weird form of St. Magnus – which is the patron saint of the church of Samnaun village.
