Samland or Sambia (Russian: semlyandskiy poluostrov, Polish: Sambia) is the name of a peninsula on the southeastern shore of the Baltic Sea. Originally populated by a Baltic tribe which gave the area its name, Samland was for long a part of East Prussia. It was the last area where the Old Prussian language was spoken before becoming extinct at the beginning of the 18th century. Today the peninsula is in Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast and is mainly populated by Russians and Belarusians. Samland has two famous seaside resorts: Zelenogradsk and Svetlogorsk.
