Jacob Isaakszoon van Ruysdael - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (824 words)
He was nephew of Salomon van Ruisdael, a landscape artist of some note, and also studied under him.
The subjects of certain of his mountain scenes seem to be taken from Norway, and have led to the supposition that he had travelled in that country.
Figures are sparingly introduced into his compositions, and such as occur are believed to be from the pencils of Adrian van de Velde, Philip Wouwerman, and Jan Lingelbach.
