The State University of New York at Oneonta is a four-year liberal arts college in Oneonta, New York, United States. Established in 1889 as a state normal school with the sole mission of training teachers, the College at Oneonta was a founding member of the State University of New York system in 1948. Today, the College offers many bachelor's degrees in the liberal arts and sciences, as well as bachelor's degrees in business, human ecology (family and consumer sciences), mass communication, meteorology, and water resources. A number of graduate degrees are also offered. The school is particularly renowned for its education program (given its traditional context at the college) and more recently its music industry degree. The State University of New York at Oneonta was also used in the 1973 cult horror film "The Last House on Dead End Street" (aka The Fun House). The film was made by then SUNY Oneonta student Roger Michael Watkins and featured entirely local talent, including SUNY professor Paul M. Jensen.

SUNY Oneonta blanks Hartwick - NCAA Sports.com (394 words)
ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Oneonta State scored four goals including two from junior Mary Velan (Stamford, NY/Stamford) in the first 28 minutes of the game on Sept. 23 en route to a 6-0 shut out of city rival Hartwick College in non-conference action for both squads.
Oneonta opened the scoring in the 13th minute when sophomore Lindsey Brechbiel (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland); crossed a ball from the left wing into the box that classmate Christine Marra (Thiells, NY/North Rockland); put to the back of the goal.
Oneonta's fifth goal was unassisted by sophomore Sarah Begley (North Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili).

Centerpieces to the community are Damaschke Field, former home of the Oneonta Yankees (recently relocated to facilities in Staten Island by the Yankee Organization), the National Soccer Hall of Fame currently located in the City of Oneonta, and the planned Clyde Wright Soccer Campus to be located in the Town of Oneonta.
Furthermore, SUNY Oneonta provides the City with a public access television channel which offers a 24 hour visual information source in addition to governmental, cultural and educational programming.
The area is also serviced by a number of museums, most notably the Leatherstocking Railway Historical Society, the Yager Museum at Hartwick College, the SUNY Science Museum, the National Soccer Hall of Fame, The National Baseball Hall of Fame, The Fenimore House and The Farmer's Museum.
