Jump to: navigation, search

Roy Williams (born August 14, 1980 in Redwood City, California) is a safety for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. Long after his high school football campaign at James Logan High School, Williams was drafted as the #8 pick in the first round of the 2002 NFL draft out of the University of Oklahoma, where he played on a national championship football team in 2000. In 2001, his junior season at OU, he won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the nation's top overall defensive player and the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back. Williams has quickly established himself as one of the hardest hitting safeties in the NFL. He looks to be a dominant force once more in Bill Parcells' newly-installed 3-4 defense after struggling all of the 2004 season, having to stay in man coverage the majority of the snaps. With the right cornerback position stabilized by the free agent pickup of Anthony Henry, Williams can once more roam closer to the line of scrimmage. As of Week 1 of the NFL season, Williams already has .5 sacks.
