Richard Ward, (19151979) was a gravel-voiced black American actor in films and TV from the late 1950s onwards until his death. In the pilot film for the celebrated cop show of the 1970s, Starsky and Hutch, he played Captain Dobey, though in the series itself he was replaced by Bernie Hamilton.
