Reni is a city with about 20,000 people, located at the south-western tip of Ukraine, in the Budjak region. It is the capital of Reni district which includes some 41,000 people, almost 50% of them being Romanians, while Ukrainians, Russians, Bulgarians, Gagauzians and others comprising the rest. A railway linking Moldova and Romania passes through Reni. Budjak or Budzhak is the southern part of Bessarabia, now part of the Odessa Oblast (province) of Ukraine. ... The Reni district is in south-western Ukraine, in the region of Bugeac. ... The Gagauz are a Turkic people minority of southern Moldova (in Gagauzia) and of southwestern Ukraine (in Budjak) that numbers around 250,000. ...
