Registrar may refer to:

  • In education, a registrar' or registry is an official in an academic institution (a college, university, or secondary school) who handles student records. Typically, a registrar processes registration requests, schedules classes and maintains class lists, enforces the rules for entering or leaving classes, and keeps a permanent record of grades and marks. The University of Cambridge, England uses the the archaic spelling of "Registrary" for this office, and the office has considerably more administrative power.
  • In law courts a registrar is responsible for the administration of the court service, and may also have a quasi-judicial role
  • In British usage, a registrar of births, marriages and deaths, empowered to perform marriages and Civil Partnerships and officially record births and deaths.
