Redbird trains are the name for the now retired r26, 28, 29, 33, 36 fleet of subway cars.


They received their name from the dark red color they were painted in after being rebuilt during the 1980s and 1990s subway overhaul. Design Scheme

The color scheme consists of the dark red body, silver roof and black sign bonnet. Some of the cars have been converted to work service and thus have been repainted yellow. The R-30 fleet served the BMT/IND http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooklyn-Manhattan_Transit_Corporation service lines, as opposed to the IRT line- whose cars are considered 'true' redbird trains.
