Rawlins is a city located in Carbon County, Wyoming. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,538. It is the county seat of Carbon County6.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 8,538 people, 3,320 households, and 2,237 families residing in the city. The population density is 445.5/km˛ (1,153.4/mi˛). There are 3,860 housing units at an average density of 201.4/km˛ (521.4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 85.86% White, 0.81% African American, 1.46% Native American, 0.84% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 8.28% from other races, and 2.65% from two or more races. 21.05% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,320 households out of which 33.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% are married couples living together, 10.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.6% are non-families. 26.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 2.97.
