Raditz is the biological brother of Son Goku and the eldest son of Burdock. He is essentially a warrior in Freeza's army, and works alongside Vegeta and Nappa. While working on a team led by Vegeta, Raditz traveled to Earth to find out why Goku hadn't finished the mission that he was sent on as a baby: the overthrow of Earth. Upon arrival however, Raditz discovered that Goku had lost his Saiyan violent tendencies and also had no knowledge of his ancestry or his true species. Raditz attempted to persuade Goku to join him and take over the planet, but to no avail. In the manga, it was said that his power level was over 1,200; according to the anime, his fighting power is equal to that of a single Saibaiman; and according to the seventh Daizenshū, his fighting power is 1,500. Background

Saiyan Saga

Main article: Saiyan Saga

Raditz arrives on Earth in search of a man named "Kakarot," later revealed to be Goku. While for strong beings, he runs into Piccolo. Piccolo is easily outmatched, but before Raditz is able to finish him off, he finds a higher and more familiar power. Raditz tracks the power level down to the Kame House, where Goku, his son Gohan, and their friends are enjoying a reunion. Raditz identifies Goku as Kakarot, and informs Goku that he is his older brother, who arrived on Earth to find him. When Goku asks where Raditz came from, Raditz tells Goku that they are both Saiyan warriors, and tells him the history of the Saiyan race including the Planet Trade Organization's practice of conquering planets and selling them for profit. The Saiyan Saga is the name of the first saga in the anime Dragon Ball Z. It was preceded by the final Dragon Ball saga, the Piccolo Junior Saga, and was followed by the Namek Saga, the first chapter in the much larger Freeza Saga plot arc. ...

When it becomes clear to Raditz that Goku is not coming with him, Raditz kidnaps Gohan and holds him ransom. He informs Goku that if he ever wants to see Gohan again, he should eliminate one hundred Earthlings and bring them to Raditz by the next day. Laughing, Raditz flies off with Gohan in his hands. Goku, forced to team up with Piccolo, goes after and confronts Raditz soon after.

After the battle starts, both are easily outclassed. Although Piccolo reveals a new technique that can kill Raditz, Goku must hold on to Raditz long enough for him to charge and fire accurately. Goku does this by holding on to Raditz's tail, but Raditz tricks his brother into thinking that he has reformed and will leave the planet. The naive Goku believes this but is quickly knocked down and tortured. Seeing his father being hurt angers Gohan, and his hidden power is able to severely cripple Raditz. Goku uses this chance to grab Raditz in a full nelson and hold him in place. Piccolo fires his special attack, the powerful Makankosappo which easily kills both of them. Before his death, he transmit their final conversation of the Dragon Balls to Vegeta and Nappa, who start to head to Earth. In the Otherworld, Raditz attempts to fight King Yemma, who overpowers him and sends Raditz to Hell. He is not seen again, except in the background during the few times villains escape from hell. This is a list of fictional techniques used in the manga Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, as well as the anime for Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT. They are most often used in combat though some possess defensive or unrelated outcomes. ...

Special abilities

Like most of the strong beings in the series, Raditz can fly and shoot energy beams. Also, being a saiyan, Raditz has a tail and thus has the ability to transform into an Oozaru under the full moon, however this ability is never used in the series. It does, however, show up in the video game Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2. Even in Oozaru form, he has his long hair.

Video Games

Raditz has been playable in:

  • Dragon Ball Z: Budokai
  • Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2
  • Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3
  • Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi
  • Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (With non-canon Great Ape transformation)
  • Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu

Raditz has been an unplayable enemy in:

  • Dragon Ball Z: Sagas
  • Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku

In Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 Raditz has is own what-if story. It involves Raditz losing o Piccolo in their first meeting and thus Piccolo never turned good but Raditz lost his memories like Goku did and so travelled to Kame island to help Goku defeat the now cockier Piccolo.

Raditz takes over piccolos role of the silent hero and Gohans mentor and eventually when leaving earth he collides his ship with Vegeta and Nappas. It is unclear whether he did this for his own, selfish reasons or if it was the love he felt for his younger brother and nephew.
