Quinte West is a municipality in central eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located on the western end of the Bay of Quinte, and is on Trent-Severn Waterway. The southwestern part of the city also touches Lake Ontario. Quinte West is in the County of Hastings. Quinte West was formed from the former municipalites of Trenton, Frankford, Murray Township, and Sidney Township in a municipal restructuring in the late 1990's. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are the local law enforcement authority. The current mayor of the city is Robert Campney. Of notable importance is the fact that Quinte West is home to 8 Wing Trenton, the Canadian Armed Forces primary air transportation hub. It also serves as the area's biggest employer. As is the case with other Ontario municipalites which adopted new names following restructuring, the new "Quinte West" name is generally not recognized outside of the immediate area. As of 2006, there has been discussion regarding renaming the municipality to something more familiar, possibly "Greater Trenton".
