Maltese bread capital

Qormi is recognized locally as the capital of bread. It boasts a large number of bakeries, several operating in the traditional manner, some of which use wood burning ovens. It should be noted Malta's staple food is bread, and that the local Maltese bread is very much sought after. Qormi also holds a yearly Bread Festival.


Religion

The patron saint of Qormi is Saint George while the saint protector is Saint Sebastian. For two weeks in summer, the town celebrates the feasts of its Saints. The town is also known for its Good Friday procession from the church of Saint George which features over 500 participants.
