Purple Radio is Durham University's student radio station. Purple broadcasts 24/7 all term, every term and provides 'the best new and classic music, as well as intellectual talk based programming'. High profile, as well as university staff and students regularly appear as guests, in order to keep Purple at the forefront of relevant news, current affairs and interest. The studio, re-built in 2006 is housed in Dunelm House, which is also home to Durham Students' Union. The station is run by a station manager, who is elected in the second term by the Council of the Union. The manager then selects an executive committee, whose job it is to assist the manager run the station.
Members of the radio station pay a nominal fee in order to pay for studio maintenance, promotion and projects. In addition to presenters, the station has a dedicated music team, which writes comprehensive reviews for the many CDs that are sent from record companies. The website is updated regularly with these, in addition to gig reviews.
