Proisocortex is an area in the cerebral cortex. It is a transitional area between the (true) isocortex and periallocortex. It is found in cingulate cortex (Brodmann areas 24, 25, 30 and 32), insula and parahippocampal gyrus. Location of the cerebral cortex Slice of the cerebral cortex, ca. ... Isocortex is the part of the cerebral cortex with a six layer laminar structure. ... The cingulate cortex is part of the brain and situated roughly in the middle of the cortex. ... 24 - ventral anterior cingulate (area cingularis anterior ventralis). ... // Human Brodmann area 25 (BA25) is an area in the cerebral cortex of the brain and delineated based on its cytoarchitectonic characteristics. ... This area is known as agranular retrolimbic area 30, and it refers to a subdivision of the cytoarchitecturally defined retrosplenial region of the cerebral cortex. ... The introduction to this article provides insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject matter. ... Insula is the Latin word for island. It has other meanings: A Roman building with several stories. ... The parahippocampal gyrus (or hippocampal gyrus) is a grey matter cortical region of the brain that surrounds the hippocampus. ...
These can be viewed, cytoarchitectonically, as a continuous strip parallel to the corpus callosum, but because of their connections with other parts of the brain we will treat them as quite separate areas (posterior and frontal, respectively).
Next we have the proisocortex of areas 29d (posterior) and 24b (frontal) and finally, in monkeys but probably not rats, we have the true isocortex of area 23 (posterior).
However, the proisocortex and least laminated isocortex of the dorsal and ventral trends in the prefrontal cortex are extensively interconnected with each other and with, at least, area 24 of the cingulate cortex.
