Point Pleasant was incorporated as a borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 21, 1920, from portions of Brick Township, based on the results of a referendum held on May 19, 1920. Local government

Voters elect a Mayor and six Borough Council members in partisan elections on an at-large basis. The Mayor serves a four-year term. The Borough Council members serve staggered three-year terms, with two seats coming up to vote each year.


The Mayor is the head of municipal government; sees that state laws and borough ordinances are faithfully executed; presides over the Council. votes only to break ties; can veto ordinances subject to override by 2/3 majority of Council; and appoints subordinate officers with Council approval. After thirty days or upon Council disapproval, Council fills posts.


The Borough Council is the legislative body of municipality. The Council overrides a mayor's veto by 2/3 majority of all members, confirms mayor's appointments. The Council gains appointment power upon failure to confirm mayor's appointee or after office vacant for thirty days. The Council has all executive responsibility not placed in office of mayor. Point Pleasant NJ - A New Jersey Shore site (419 words)
The land known as Point Pleasant NJ, inhabited by the Lenni Lenape Indians in 1609, was first spotted by the Sea Captain Henry Hudson from the deck of his ship, the "Half Moon" as he made his way north up the NJ Coast past Bay Head.
Point Pleasant shares the Manasquan Inlet with Manasquan New Jersey, one of the better Point Pleasant Fishing spots along the Jersey Shore.It was not until 1915 that the permanent boardwalk was installed along the beachfront.
It ran the entire length of Point Pleasant NJ Beach, however, the hurricane of 1938 shortened it to it's present length.

Point Pleasant Beach is a Jersey Shore community situated on the Barnegat Peninsula, a long, narrow barrier peninsula that divides the Barnegat Bay from the Atlantic Ocean.
The Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk is approximately one mile long, spanning the coastline from the Manasquan Inlet at the north to the border with Bay Head in the south.
New Jersey's Fourth Congressional District, covering portions of Burlington County, Mercer County, Monmouth County and Ocean County, is represented by Christopher Smith (R).
