Pleasant Grove is a city located in Utah County, Utah. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 23,468.

Pleasant Grove is located at 40°22'13" North, 111°43'53" West (40.370251, -111.731510)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 22.6 km˛ (8.7 mi˛). 22.6 km˛ (8.7 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 23,468 people, 6,109 households, and 5,388 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,039.1/km˛ (2,691.5/mi˛). There are 6,334 housing units at an average density of 280.5/km˛ (726.4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 95.15% White, 0.29% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.39% Pacific Islander, 1.75% from other races, and 1.50% from two or more races. 4.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 6,109 households out of which 58.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 77.0% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 11.8% are non-families. 9.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.83 and the average family size is 4.11.


In the city the population is spread out with 41.0% under the age of 18, 11.3% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 13.8% from 45 to 64, and 5.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 24 years. For every 100 females there are 100.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.2 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $52,036, and the median income for a family is $54,182. Males have a median income of $42,042 versus $23,296 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,268. 6.8% of the population and 5.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.1% of those under the age of 18 and 3.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

History of Pleasant Grove, Utah (918 words)
Pleasant Grove, Utah County, was founded by Mormon settlers on 13 September 1850, and became an incorporated city on 19 January 1855.
Situated on the northeastern edges of Utah Valley and Utah Lake and along the western slope of the Wasatch Range at the foot of Mount Timpanogos, the area's gravelly alluvial deposits and sediments from Lake Bonneville are ideal for fruit trees, while the mountains afford protection from late spring frosts.
In 1915 the Pleasant Grove Cannery was built near the Union Pacific Railroad line; it provided an outlet for row crops, such as peas, green beans, corn, tomatoes, and pumpkins, as well as large fruits.
